The tour to the Wiwa Gotsezhy people is an ancestral experience, where the group of tourists make a Trek of 4 hours approximately to visit a native indigenous community of
the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

During the tour, you will have the opportunity to meet live the Wiwa Indians and learn about their traditions, customs and beliefs that make them unique in the protection of the lower part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
In addition, you will be able to walk along the ancestral trails that the Wiwa Indians, guardians of the land and heirs of ancestral knowledge, use to move around their territory and that also connect with one of the most impressive attractions of Gotsezhy, La Cascada Matuna, only 15 minutes away from the Wiwa cabin.

The tour starts at about 8:00 AM from the agency in Santa Marta, you will be driven in an air-conditioned minibus to Guachaca, from where the hike to the indigenous Wiwa village called Gotsezhy begins.
The journey takes approximately 4 hours and is a challenging crossing with some steep sections, so travelers should be prepared for this physical challenge.
Once the trekking is finished in the community, tourists will be received by the Mamo, an indigenous spiritual leader, who will welcome them to their territory; there, they will be able to enjoy activities typical of indigenous tourism, such as gastronomy, exhibition of handicrafts and an ancestral talk with some members of the community; this is a unique opportunity to learn about the indigenous culture and traditions of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
The Matuna Waterfall is another attraction of the Wiwa Gotsezhy Village. The waterfall you will visit is an impressive waterfall that forms a crystalline lagoon, ideal for a refreshing swim and relax in the middle of nature; during the 15 minute tour from the lodge, the indigenous guide will explain about the fauna and flora of the place, as well as share information about the history and indigenous beliefs.
After the activities, in the evening, tourists will enjoy a delicious dinner at the lodge and then head to the lodging place; travelers will have the option of choosing between beds or hammocks to spend the night, both options depend on occupancy to guarantee an unforgettable experience.
The day begins early with breakfast and, right after, the indigenous guide and other members of the community carry out activities that expose their culture and ancestral traditions.
One of the activities consists of extracting fique from the Maguey plant, which is the raw material used to weave their indigenous handicrafts; once the man extracts the fibers, washes and dries them carefully, he gives them to the Wiwa women so that they can dye them naturally and turn them into beautiful pieces of art such as backpacks, necklaces, handles, clothing and much more.
The Wiwa women are experts in weaving these fibers and creating unique handicrafts of their culture, during the day, they will offer talks and exhibitions of their products so that hikers can learn more about their traditions.
After lunch around noon, hikers will rest for a while before getting ready to return on a trek to the village of Guachaca. There, the vehicle will be waiting to take you back to the city of Santa Marta around 5:00 pm.
El Refugio Gotsezhy is an indigenous Wiwa community of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, this people works indigenous tourism in a responsible way, they have a space designed only to expose their culture and traditions. In this place, tourists interact with the indigenous people in an open way.
