The Bunkuany Tayrona tour is a new adventure experience in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, an excursion from the Calabazo village through jungle and mountain trails to the Lost City of Bunkuany.
During this tour, you will enter the jungle and walk through beautiful natural landscapes and rivers, it is important to note that this trek to Bunkuany Tayrona is a trek that requires a good physical condition on the part of hikers, as the hike can be demanding in some sections.
Once you discover Bunkuany Tayrona, you will be amazed to see the ruins and archaeological remains that are still preserved in this ancestral place; you can walk the different paths, terraces and sacred squares that make up these ruins with local or indigenous guides.

Tourists meet their guide at the Calabazo trailhead at 7:00 am. Together, they chat about the day’s exciting itinerary while getting to know each other. Without delay, they begin a walk of approximately 40 minutes to the Madre Sierra Hotel, in this establishment, travelers have the opportunity to revitalize themselves with a delicious breakfast before continuing the journey to Bunkuany Tayrona.
This new journey from the Madre Sierra Hotel to Bunkuany Tayrona takes approximately 3 hours, the scenery that you will discover during the hike is magical, typical of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Don Ciro is a local farmer whom you will meet along the way and who offers his hospitality to all travelers.
Arriving at Bunkuany Tayrona, tourists are led by the guide through the main ancestral sites that make up these archaeological ruins, stone paths, terraces, among others, where each place tells a story.
After the guided tour in Bunkuany, the travelers descend around noon to the restaurant where they will have lunch and rest a little from the hike, immediately after which the group continues with their return trip until they arrive back at the Madre Sierra Hotel.
After a rest at the Madre Sierra Hotel, the group continues the trek back to Calabazo, where the tourists finish the experience and take the transportation to Santa Marta.
It is important to mention that this tour is an opportunity to connect with nature and experience life in the jungle first hand. Therefore, remember to bring comfortable clothes, insect repellent, sunscreen and plenty of water.
