The tour to Ciudad Perdida in Santa Marta is a challenging but rewarding experience, usually lasting 4 days and 3 nights, depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions, hikers cross rivers, cross suspension bridges, climb steep hills and immerse themselves in the lush rainforest vegetation of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Along the way, hikers also have the opportunity to interact slightly with indigenous communities that inhabit the region, these native peoples are descendants of the ancient Tayrona and preserve their culture, traditions and ancestral knowledge.

 

Lost City Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: START OF TOUR TO THE LOST CITY OF SANTA MARTA

You will start the trip to Ciudad Perdida from our main office in Santa Marta at 8:00 AM, once organized in the agency, you will meet the indigenous guide who will give a small initial information to leave by vehicle to the Mamey, where the hike begins.

At the point where the excursion starts, you will receive the entrance handles to the
Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta Park
where you will have lunch to get ready to start the best adventure of your life, the trip to the Lost City of Colombia.

The group will hike 7.6 kilometers during the day until reaching the first camp where they will spend the night; the group will make several stops along the route at hydration and rest points to eat some fruit and snacks to recharge their batteries during the excursion.

The group of adventurers will have dinner at the camp and then the guide will organize a small talk before going to sleep to share the day’s experience and tomorrow’s itinerary.

DAY 2: TREKKING IN THE JUNGLES OF THE SIERRA NEVADA OF SANTA MARTA

The group will wake up the second day at 4:30 AM to be ready and have an early breakfast; at 6:00 AM they will start a demanding hike of approximately 18 kilometers to reach the second camp where they will spend the night, halfway through the route they will arrive at the Wiwa indigenous hut, place where they will have lunch and take some rest.

Very close to the wiwa cabin, there is a river that has an ancestral waterfall, a magical place to share with adventure friends and cool off a little on this hike to the Lost City of Santa Marta.

After the visit to the Wiwa hut, the travelers continue the journey passing very close to an indigenous Kogui community, called Mutanzhi; in the afternoon they will arrive at the Paso Lorenzo camp, a hut located 1 kilometer from the Lost City of Tayrona, at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level.

In the evening after dinner, a group discussion is organized by the indigenous guide to share the experiences lived during the tour and get ready to arrive the next day to the objective, the ruins and terraces of Ciudad Perdida.

DAY 3: DISCOVERING THE LOST CITY OF TAYRONA

Travelers wake up very early to have breakfast, and then depart to the Lost City Tayrona, they will walk from the camp 1 kilometer, crossing the jungle and the Buriticá river to reach the first step in stone of Teyuna, a total of 1200 steps will be a new challenge to reach the top where this magical ancestral destination is located.

Climbing the steps, you will arrive at the first terrace of Ciudad Perdida, where you will make a spiritual payment, which is a permission to the ancient Tayrona to visit this sacred territory; in this way you will have a secure entrance to start the 3-hour tour in the Ciudad Perdida Santa Marta.

During the tour you will share with the group ancestral activities, photos and knowledge of the archaeological ruins of Teyuna, if the Mamo Kogui (spiritual guide of Ciudad Perdida) is in Teyuna, you will be able to enjoy an authentic experience in this great adventure.

After finishing their tour of the Lost City, the tourists return to the camp to have lunch and continue the trip back to the Wiwa camp, where they will spend the third night of this beautiful trip to the Lost City.

In the Wiwa camp, you will have the opportunity to gather in a circle in front of a campfire, the perfect time to ask questions to the guide about their culture and ancestral knowledge that will be transmitted by him to the group, so that they value a little more the mother earth.

DAY 4: RETURN TRIP TO SANTA MARTA

On the fourth day of the excursion, tourists get up early as usual to have breakfast and then continue the descent to the first point where the hike begins, during the return trip they can take the last photos of the trail.

Transportation will be waiting for you to return to Santa Marta, arriving at the office around 4:30 PM. End of Tour
